Though I spent two years as a student employee in the Administrative Office, when I graduated from college in 1994 I did not anticipate returning to become a staff member at my alma mater. I certainly did not think I would ever live in Oklahoma, but the LORD brought both of these things to pass, and I am thankful He did!
God has been good to me through the years I have worked for the college. Though my areas of responsibility have changed several times, I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve the LORD at this wonderful institution! Moving from the position of Assistant to the Executive Vice President to become the Librarian (in 2007) enabled me to teach full-time in the Ministry Secretarial program.
Teaching ladies the skills needed to manage a ministry office with excellence and integrity is an extraordinary responsibility! In the first year of classes, I emphasize the basics of proper keyboarding technique, word processing format and functions, and principles of design for promotional materials appropriate for ministry. My second-year classes primarily cover proper procedures for work in the office environment, the changing role of technology in the workplace, consistent proofreading and editing techniques, observing various offices, and a guided internship in a local church’s office.
Serving in the Heartland Library is a joy! I find great pleasure assisting students in locating the information and materials they need to study and complete their projects. It is also a blessing to help them resolve many computer-related challenges.
Perhaps the greatest joy comes from observing students as they learn, graduate, and serve the LORD with their lives! Every time I see and/or hear from a former student who has remained faithful to the LORD I am encouraged to continue faithfully serving here at Heartland.
