Andrea Briggs – 1994 Graduate

Though I spent two years as a student employee in the Administrative Office, when I graduated from college in 1994 I did not anticipate returning to become a staff member at my alma mater.  I certainly did not think I would ever live in Oklahoma, but the LORD brought both of these things to pass, and I am thankful He did!

Colorado Regional Alumni Meeting

Greetings from Longmont, CO!

In the past few weeks, you have probably heard of Longmont, CO or possibly Boulder, CO, which is only a few miles west of us. Just a few weeks ago, we experienced historic flooding in which the normally peaceful creeks of Longmont turned into rushing rivers nearly as wide as the Mississippi, yet violent enough to destroy bridges and highways all around town. Neighborhoods were evacuated. Businesses were under water. Longmont was divided in half. All of this took place in a matter of one day.

Chrissy Premeaux – 1998 Graduate

Fifteen years after my time at Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College, I cannot say enough of how my college years impacted my decisions as to what, where, and how I might end up serving the Lord.

It seems hard to believe that that this year will mark a decade since graduating from Heartland (class of 2004).

Making a Difference

Every one desires to make a difference.  Sometimes it can be a challenge to determine in what area or exactly how to make a difference.  Being a part of the Alumni Association is one way every alumnus can make a difference.  There are several ways that this can be accomplished.

Paying Attention

God is good. He always has been. Sometimes I don’t see it, but most of the time I’m just too selfish to acknowledge it. I’ve been working on it, though: thinking of things to be thankful for, praising others who have been continually investing their time and effort and love into me, and on purpose including a thankful time in my prayers each day.

Giving Back

On February 15, Richard Driehaus donated $30 million to DePaul University.  On March 21, Harvard announced a $30 million gift from alumnus Joseph J. O’Donnell.  Sam Bradford, an Oklahoma University alumnus, donated $500,000 to the OU Athletics Department just a few days ago.  Too bad he didn’t play for Heartland.

Regional Meetings

Dear Fellow Alumni,

After having been at Heartland for over 10 years, both as a student and now as staff, it has been a great privilege to get to know students and graduates from many different years. Those of us who serve here in OKC have the opportunity to reunite and fellowship regularly with graduates as they come back for the Alumni Homecoming Week in October, when they bring a youth group for College Days, come to see a sibling or friend graduate, travel through on deputation, present at the Home Missions Conference, bring a student to college in the fall, etc. Over the past few years, I have realized more and more how blessed I am to be able to fellowship with like-minded men and women of God who graduated from Heartland or PCBBC and are now being used around the world to accomplish His will.

Investing in Students

Heartland students highly esteem Heartland graduates who are serving the Lord in ministry. As I reflect upon my time as a student at Heartland, I think about the times that Heartland graduates would visit the campus. I greatly looked up to those who had trod the path before me; they had gone through Bible College themselves and were now serving in ministry.

Use Your Tools

I must confess that I don’t love social media. I know that’s an ironic opening for a Facebook post, but it’s nevertheless my perspective. I find that, too often, the cheaper and easier it becomes for us to communicate, the more trivial our content becomes. (Hence, the classic “tweet” about someone’s dog getting a new sweater.) With that being said, my contempt for the negatives of social networking does not mean that I’m not interested in staying connected. On the contrary. “Staying connected” isn’t just a significant part of our Alumni Association mission; it’s an ideal that has come to mean a lot to me personally.
